e hundred and thirty cases of laryngeal polyp and nodule were studied clinically and statistically in the past 10 years from January 1981 to December 1990.
@ES And the following results were obtained.
@EN 1) Age and sex distribution showed marked increase after age of fourth decade and M: F ratio was 1.9:1.
2) Occupation of patients in order of frequency were officer(35.2%), merchant(18.5%), farmer (11.6%), driver(9.3%0, factory worker(7.4%), student(5.1%), teacher(4.6%) in male patients and housewife(71%), merchant(10.5%), officer(6.1%) in female
patients.
3) The highest incidence of duration from the onset of symptom to visit clinic was 3 to 12 months in 78 cases(23.6%).
4) Approximately, half of the cases have shown an insidious onset.
5) The most common symptoms were hoarseness and lump sensation of throat.
6) Unilateral occurrence was more common than bilateral(3.2:1).
7) The most common site was at the junction of anterior and middle one third of the true vocal cord(88%).
8) The size was 3mm to 5mm in most of the cases(66.7%) and in shape, sessile type was prominent(74%).
9) Histopathologically, the main pathologic findings of the epithelium were hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, and acanthosis and in the subepithelium vascular, exudative, fibrous and hyaline change.
